Building Water Safety one child at a time.

WHY ISR SETS CHILDREN UP FOR SUCCESS

Personalized 1:1 lessons for infants and young children to empower their water survival skills.
Swim Lessons

One-on-One Survival Swim Instruction

Every child is unique. Our individualized, private ISR lessons are tailored to your child's unique needs, pace, and personality. We provide focused attention on your child, helping them learn self-rescue skills step-by-step while building confidence as they go!

Refreshers for Returning Swimmers

Children grow and develop rapidly during early childhood, and their swim skills need to adjust as they grow. Refresher lessons are shorter sessions, designed for students who have already completed ISR lessons and need to keep their skills fresh. These classes reinforce their survival skills, adjust for growth and changes in their proportions, and keep your little one confident and capable in the water year after year.

Maintenance Lessons for Practice

Maintenance lessons provide continued practice for children following their initial ISR lessons. Regularly scheduled weekly or even monthly lessons help keep your child's skills fresh while supporting long-term confidence and safety. Contact us to see what maintenance schedule makes sense for your little one!

Roll Back to Float

All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking well will learn to maintain this position until help can reach them. Over approximately 6 weeks, little ones learn how to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back independently, and maintain a comfortable, floating position to rest and breathe until help arrives. Lessons are individualized and last about 10 minutes each, 5 days per week. This structure builds the foundation for future swim skills while teaching vital self-rescue techniques that can save a life.

Swim-Float-Stay

The Swim-Float-Stay technique is designed for children (approximately 12 months-2 years) to learn to swim a short distance, roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe until help arrives or they can reach safety on their own. (Flipping over to continue to swim comes with age and willingness). Lessons are always 1:1, for a max of 10 minutes, 5 days a week, for about 6-7 weeks.
While all kids leave with the skill of the Rollback to Float, exact skillset learned within the 6 week program depends on child's age, developmental readiness, willingness & cooperation.

Swim-Float-Swim

The Swim–Float–Swim technique is designed for children who are walking, willing and developmentally ready to swim independently. As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills on land, they are ready to learn more skills in the water as well. Over the course of about 6 weeks, children learn how to swim a short distance, face-down in the water, rotate onto their back to a floating position, to rest and breathe, and then turn over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating until they can reach safety at the steps, side of the pool, or shoreline. Lessons are short (approximately 10 minutes), one-on-one, and held 5 days per week. This structure teaches both survival skills and confidence, helping children become safe, capable swimmers who can maintain control in real-world aquatic situations.

FAQs
Why are lessons only 10 minutes?
You’d be surprised how much energy little ones can use in 10 minutes, which is why this is our maximum lesson time. They are using new muscles, physically engaging in the water, all while learning at a pace appropriate for them. Although the pool temperature is maintained at 78-88 degrees, the temperature is still lower than your child's body temperature. Lessons are work and therefore will also be losing body heat. Instructors check students regularly for temperature fatigue since this is an indicator of physical fatigue. I promise you, 10 minutes maximum a day is more than enough to see progress and works with their attention span and energy levels so they do not end their lessons feeling frustrated and exhausted.
What if my child will miss a day or week?
ISR sessions are priced by the session/skill set, rather than priced by the lesson or week. Therefore, lessons missed by the student for illness, vacation, late start date, etc. will not be made up or credited. If you know that your child will miss 5+ lessons in a particular session, I recommend trying to get in during another session. Provided attendance is good otherwise, students usually catch right up upon their return. It's important to note that the 6 week session timeline for sessions is an average time. Some kids need less to master the skills and some need more! If the instructor feels a student needs more time beyond the 6th week to finish with reliable skills, more time will be carved out for them in a seventh week or in a subsequent session with waived tuition, provided the additional time is not needed due to *unexcused absences* during the session. If both parent & instructor agree that a student has mastered reliable skills in less than 6 weeks, the student can shift from the daily lesson schedule to a maintenance schedule prior to the session ending. *Lessons will always be made up or credited if the instructor needs to cancel lessons for any reason- illness, pool issues, etc.*
Why does it take an average of 6 weeks for my child to learn these skills?
The 6-week average is an estimate that is based on the average time in which it takes most children to learn these survival skills. Every child is unique and ISR’s Self- Rescue program is specifically designed based on your child’s individual strengths and needs. It is important to realize that this is an average which means that some children will actually finish more quickly while others will need more practice. ISR is dedicated to safety and, therefore, we want to provide your child with the time and best opportunity to become proficient in his/her survival skills. We will always honor your child’s needs.
Why are lessons 5 days per week?
Consistency is KEY when it comes to ISR lessons. Lessons are conducted 5 days a week (Monday through Friday) at the same time each day. With our high frequency, short duration lessons we can mold these skills into your child’s muscle memory so they become something they will not forget. Daily attendance must be adhered to barring illness.
