FAQs
What happens after our session of lessons is over?
We offer maintenance lessons to keep your child’s skills fresh as their body grows and changes as well as skill advancement lessons-from Roll back to Float to Swim-Float-Swim. The goal of maintenance lessons is to help your child adjust his/her new body size and weight to his/her existing skill level. ISR Self-Rescue Skills are sensorimotor skills, just like walking, crawling or riding a bike. Sensorimotor skills are not simply forgotten but can get rusty without use.Your instructor will work with your child to help fine-tune his or her aquatic experience to assist with building efficiency, which will result in self-confidence.
Do parents participate in the water during lessons?
No, not in the beginning. Lessons are just for the Instructor and your child. You will be your child's greatest cheerleader from the pool deck. Once we do have some stable skills to share with you, we will invite you into the pool for a lesson or two. For floaters, this will be during the last week of lessons. For swimmers, this may be 1 or 2x during the entire session. We will always discuss before hand and plan accordingly.
Why do you have the children swim in their clothes?
Because 86% of children who fall in the water do so fully clothed, we want our students to have experience with such a situation. If a child has experienced the sensations of being in the water in clothing prior to an emergency situation, he/she is less likely to experience panic and be able to focus on the task at hand. If you have ever jumped in the water with clothes on, then you know that there is a significant difference in weight and feel with clothes as opposed to a bathing suit.
Will you come to my home for private lessons?
I do not offer home visits as they make it difficult for me to be able to provide ISR’s lifesaving skills to more children each session. If you are interested in "hosting" additional students at your home pool, this may be something we can discuss, during the summer months.
